The Darkest Shadow is Cast by the Brightest Light - A Dive into our Inner World

Updated: Mar 13

What is shadow work?

The real question is, what are you afraid of?

Don't let this question fool you. It's a lot more complex than it seems, and this complexity will have your mind trying to shelf it or ignore it altogether. Even though within it lies the answers you've been seeking. This question will require deep reflection, yes, but most importantly, great courage. And with that, great patience. Because it won't all be revealed in one sitting. It can require years of deep diving, of bringing the light into the dark, of revisiting themes that you thought you already overcame. You will ask yourself over again what is the point? But if you listen and listen well, you'll hear a voice deep down letting you know you're not alone. That this is the way to living a life full of pura magia, pure magic. It is only when the light is brought in, that shadows can be cast and true healing can begin.

So, I ask again, What are you really afraid of?

It gets real easy to ignore, to stay complacent, to maintain our comfort. A lot is thrown into the dark crevices of our subconsciousness like dirt being swept under the rug. And there it stays until we're courageousness enough to confront it. No one will ever do it for us and no one way is the right way. There are many ways that supplement each other in this process, but one things for sure, we're not taught to seek out our own demons, our own hurts, faults, trauma, and anything else that has caused our nervous systems to disregulate but instead to keep on keeping on. We're conditioned from very young that as long as you're a good worker, a people pleaser and just keep accepting things as they are then all will be well. Yet many of us know in our heart of hearts that this isn't the case.

We're in a unique space of time where we have many conveniences, access to so much information, our ancestors laid did much of the work for us all to be where we are yet we sense something is missing. Many of us sense that our ancestors knew what true calidad de vida, quality of life, was. When we take the chance to try something different than we've done before, to follow the signs and clues left for us, we begin to open the lines of communication with guides, ancestors and seres de luz, beings of light, that are around us, guiding us.

I am a firm believer that Spirit is continuously communicating with us but we won't see it unless we're paying attention. I'm also a firm believer that though we have to be the ones to initiate this work, we aren't doing it alone, no matter how lonely it feels in the beginnng.

Our ancestors and guides are seeking to communicate with us at all times but how often are you creating the space for them to access you. How often are we shutting them out and simultaneously shutting our true selves out? We won't be able to pay attention if we are preoccupied with the hustle and bustle all around us. And in a lot of ways, that's the point. And I get it, believe me, I get it. We have to survive. That is, always has been and always will be our strongest instinct. What we don't realize is every time we dive a little deeper and look a little further, our ancestors rejoice because they know the struggle they went through and the hardships they overcame were not in vain.

We have the unique opportunity to combine both what they did for us and what we are starting to recognize we truly deserve more and more, but we won't be able to to truly know what that is or sustain it if we continue to live from a place of fear. We're all familiar with fear, it may show up differently for us all, but we are all familiar with it and its various manifestations. For many of us it's become second nature, we let it douse our fires, scare us from showing up as we know we can, keeps us from learning more about ourselves so we don't even think about leaving our places of comfort, no matter how small that is.

The purpose of shadow work is to develop a stronger connection to our heart center, our guiding light, and let it aid us in clearing out and excavating our highest vision in life. To truly live and relish in our authentic sovereignty.

What a beautiful world this would be if we all had the courage to look within ourselves & heal. As a first-gen Latina immigrant, teen mom, living alone and broke, a baby raising a baby, didn't have money to eat, did things I wasn't proud of, believe me when I say I know what it is to be living in constant survival mode, whether the circumstances were in or out of my hands didn't matter. It was through reading and learning from those I admired, and developing a consistent spiritual practice that I slowly made my way out because I knew the only way that I would truly be out was through. I know I would have gotten out a lot sooner had I have had the guidance I now offer others but its also the journey I needed to take to be who & where I am. And this isn't to say that what I had to struggle through was ever OK, no it's the opposite but that validation had to start from me, the awareness had to start from me and therefore the change that I was seeking began from that shift.

"Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are."

~Rachel Naomi Remen

Who are we really? What is it that we truly want? What is our true purpose here?

These are questions that seem almost impossible to answer because many of us aren't the true leaders of our own lives. We are led by forces outside of us and these forces can seem much stronger than us. But we have to start somewhere. Its not about changing your whole life overnight, its about starting where you are and trusting that you will be guided from there.

So how do we get out of this super imposed cycle we are thrown in and many times inherit?

It starts with asking yourself the following, How do I really want to live my life? And what is truly stopping me?

If you don't start then you'll never know. And again this isn't for everyone. There will be many who won't even agree and are perfectly complacent with their lives. If you're still reading this then I know that isn't you. You know there is more, A LOT more. And you deserve to give yourself the chance to find out what that is.

There are many gifts in the dark we’ve been conditioned to be afraid of.

Without renewal there is no life, without light there is no shadow.

They are equally important parts to the same coin yet we try our hardest to ignore that which we are afraid to explore instead of recognizing the treasure trove that exists within us. This is where wholeness is found. This is where we find the immense amount of power that lives within us. When we reject the dark we cast shadows, the shadows that thrive on you hiding your greatest gifts. They manifest in ways we then don’t feel proud of or fear. Going into the dark & fixing your night vision is where we will reconnect and reclaim that which we've always had.
